Timeless Trends: Animal Print

At one time, I remember thinking animal print was risque. I had a step-mom who wore a dress that was made up entirely of animal print, which might have been ok…but she had drug-store dyed jet black hair (and not the good kind) plus bright red lips to go along with it…and they were more of the orange-red variety. Add in the too short and too low cut version of said animal print dress and let’s just say, it was not classy.

Don’t get me wrong, there are ways to play up this particular animal print ensemble. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Sofia Vergara rock this look in Modern Family, but the step-mom just couldn’t rock the look so well and, as a result, I avoided all animal prints like the plague until only recent years.

I finally realized, when worn right, animal prints really can be a fantastic addition to any wardrobe and they can truly be a timeless staple. Granted, I do take a more subdued approach with my use of the animal print, but it’s a good approach nonetheless.

The most popular of the animal prints in fashion are the leopard and snakeskin prints. I recommend going with the snakeskin if you’re still uncertain when adding these prints into your wardrobe – it is more subtle and therefore a great way to work this timeless trend into your wardrobe.

Three must-have snakeskin accessories include:

  1. Strappy heels:  Those pictured are great because they are a lower heel and realistic for a mom on the go. Although, admittedly, Lanvin are definitely not budget friendly and are for inspiration purposes only for this Mama.
  2. Sassy clutch: The one pictured above is Michael Kors – a little more affordable and worth being on my wish list since it is something I consider an investment piece.
  3. Skinny belt: Not pictured, but it’s a nice piece to have for cinching up the waist of a solid colored dress or to add to a black pair of dress pants and solid colored blouse.
What kind of outfits go with such accessories?

Animal print doesn’t seem so risque when put together this way does it? Now, if you’re looking to add some leopard into your life, you could always add it in with a simple off the shoulder black top and leggings outfit by wearing a pair of leopard flats.

Add some gold bangles and you’re golden. No pun intended. Ok it was intended.

Until next time Modern Moms!

I love animal print, especially on shoes. They are surprisingly versatile and there are so many different styles to choose from now. It’s great!
