You know it’s coming, right? That time of year where the kids are home for months on end?
Summer vacation … filled with endless trips to the beach, backyard BBQs, and snacks for the neighborhood. But if you’re anything like me, you get in a rut with snacks, fixing the same thing over and over.
This topic also came up because we began looking for ways to cut down our grocery budget … and we found that a lot of what we were spending went to snacks for the kids. I wanted to start making my own because it would a) be healthier and b) save us money. So where did I look? I’m going to share with you.
I started at Super Healthy Kids, where I found recipes for cheese crackers (waaay better than goldfish!!), FroYo bites, peach crisp bites, baby biscuits, and tons more (including this yummy maple almond popcorn that looks divine!!). PLUS, they have an excellent piece on drying your own fruits and veggies.
This Strawberry and Cream Cheese Sandwich at Eating Well looks really yummy too … and it’s one of just 24 recipes they have for kids. Imagine these as part of a little tea party … how fun would that be? The site also showcases chocolate-dipped frozen bananas covered in coconut … mmmm …. and, as an aside that is not summer related, per se, they have a recipe for microwave potato chips that I’m dying to try.
And finally, the momma behind Fix Me a Snack has some awesome food and snack ideas in her “10 minutes or less” category, including Kettle Corn, Salted Apples, and Shiny Happy People … plus a great blog in general.
