The Mommy Files: Crafting Blogs for Kids

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about having a toddler in the house, it’s that they love projects. Some of this might be fueled by going to preschool, because they do a lot of projects at school, but I also think that kids just inherently enjoy using their hands, glue sticks, paint, and lots of different materials to make stuff.

When Sydnie was older, I got her a big tub of art supplies for Easter one year … she loved it. This year, she did the same thing for Ella for her birthday … again, major success.

So I’ve spent a lot of time lately looking at craft blogs for kids. After all, you can only buy so many pre-made crafting kits before the spending gets out of control (though if you’re in the market, Michael’s has an amazing selection).

Preschool Crafts for Kids has a wonderful selection and is organized in two ways: by holiday and by material. Want to use chopsticks? They’ve got crafts for that! Empty bottles? Got that too.

In fact, I’m actually loving that category because they have a great St. Patrick’s I Spy Bottle Craft that involves hiding objects in a bottle and then filling it with dried peas … this would keep L busy for hours! The other thing I like about this blog is the endless links to other sites.

If you have a Pinterest account, you might want to get ready to start a new board and do some pinning!

A recent discovery of mine was the site Modern Parents Messy Kids. I like this site for a number of reasons: it’s aesthetically very pleasing. Not only does she have kid craft stuff, she also has food, decorating, and organization tips. In other words, the name of the blog totally fits.

If you have a preschooler that’s closing in on Kindergarten, shoot over to Getting Messy with Ms. Jess! A site that’s colorful, fun, inspiring, and has a category called Trashy Tuesday; who can argue with a category name like that??? From brown paper bags and newspapers to rocks, paints, and crayons, this girl has every material you can think of used in some way, shape or form.

What are your favorite kid craft blogs? Do you have a blog with kid-focused crafts?? Leave a link in the comments below!

In my experience, anything involving glitter and glue is a hit with the preschool through preteen group. Something about those two combined is a real crowd pleaser. :)
