The OttLite concept is hard to explain, but I truly believe an OttLite is a necessity for any crafter. These unique lights mimic natural light, allowing you to see colors more clearly while reducing eyestrain.
I was skeptical when I first heard about the OttLite, but once I saw a lamp in action I was hooked.
My OttLite is the small craft caddy version. I love the extra storage space in the base of the lamp.
There are two removable storage trays with three divided compartments in each tray so you have places to put pens, markers, scissors, glue sticks, and other miscellaneous crafting tools. There is even an extra outlet, in case you need to plug in a glue gun or heat embosser.
The main reason I wanted this lamp was to provide better lighting for my office, but it is also great for photographing small items such as closeups of my origami models for my About.com Origami website.
If you have a blog or sell crafts on Etsy, this is a nice alternative to more expensive photography lighting setups.
The cord storage reel around the base of the lamp is something I haven’t seen in other products, but it’s a smart idea if you don’t need a long cord and you want to keep your desktop from being unnecessarily cluttered.
If you’re concerned about energy efficiency, keep in mind that the OttLite craft caddy comes with an energy efficient 13 watt bulb rated to last up to 10,000 hours. That should give you plenty of time to complete whatever project your heart desires!
