No More Bare Walls!

No More Bare Walls!

I’m not sure why, but January always gets me in the mood to redecorate. I don’t always buy new things for every room, but one thing I like to do is change our wall art.

In my opinion, having something new to look at on the walls seems to brighten up the whole room!

Here are my favorite cheap wall art ideas:

  • Let your kids splatter acrylic paint on plain canvases to make colorful abstract art. Look for cheap canvases with Hobby Lobby’s 40% off newspaper coupon.
  • Use image editing software to make a photo collage of your child. Add different filters for an artist effect. The collage accompanying this post is one I did of my son when he was a baby.
  • Turn white cardboard gift boxes into shadowbox shelves for your favorite collectibles. Use thumbtacks to pin the boxes to the wall, then fill them with lightweight objects.
  • Stores like Walmart and Target are a great source of expensive collage style frames. Create a sophisticated look for your frame by printing all of your photos in black and white, then choosing a few spots to use for showcasing colorful bits of patterned paper or fabric.
  • Origami allows for many interesting wall art possibilities. Paper cups folded from scrapbook paper provide colorful wall decor that doubles as fun storage for craft supplies or other odds and ends.
  • Print a favorite quote onto colored cardstock, mat it with patterned paper, then add it to a thrift store picture frame.
  • Stores like Dollar Tree often have colorful wall decals that are essentially removable stickers. My son’s room has Dollar Tree robot decals on the wall and our front porch has a small cascade of butterfly decals.

Do you have any ideas for cheap wall art that you’d like to share?
