Kombucha Tea Causes School Suspension
O.k. here’s one for your How Crazy Is That? file. Recently, a pretty normal, health conscious mom packed her child’s lunch and popped in a bottle of kombucha tea. Little did she realize that she was setting up her beloved child for a trip to the Big House.
Apparently a school official saw that the child had a drink that was in a glass container, something the school doesn’t want for safety reasons. I get that.
The container was placed in a foam sleeve so the potential for breakage was pretty slim. The school confiscated the container immediately.
Here’s where it gets weird. The next morning this little, elementary school kid gets called into the vice squad…errr I mean vice principal’s office where a police officer was waiting.
The child was interrogated about what the bottle had contained and told that kombucha was illegal and that it was dangerous when taken with medications. Are you taking medications, son?
Then the vice-principal steps in and lets the kid know that he may have to transfer schools and she then tried to enroll him in a class for alcoholic teenagers. He was then suspended for five days for violation of the schools drug and alcohol policy.
There is apparently a signed suspension form to prove it.
You can’t make this stuff up.
The school did not taste or test the contents of the bottle and they didn’t bother calling the parents for clarification. They didn’t even bother to let them in on the party – which I am pretty sure the parents can raise a rather large stink over.
