Holiday Read: Dream Snow
Eric Carle is the author that created the Very Hungry Caterpillar and other children’s books. They are easily identifiable by the big, bright illustrations. I haven’t come across one of them that I didn’t think was fantastic – at least not yet.
One of my children, and I am not even sure which it was at this point, checked out an Eric Carle book from the library.
Called Dream Snow, it is about a farmer and how he takes care of his animals. It’s almost Christmas and there is still no snow! The pages are filled with those illustrations that Carle is so well known for and, best of all, at the end of the story there is a button you push that plays a little music.
It’s seriously enchanting.
The book is a quick read aloud, and if your kids are like mine you will be glad of that because you’ll be reading it numerous times in a row.
Like most Carle books, there is some education involved – the animals are named: one, two, three, four, five so there are counting skills being reinforced. The story stresses kindness to animals, giving, and enjoyment of simple things.
I’ll be honest with you, I love that book. There is just something about it that gives you those happy, warm feelings inside.
This is the sort of book you read aloud, with a fire flickering in the fireplace, and a light snow falling. Check it out – I think you’ll like it.
