When’s the last time you visited your local library?

For us, it was last week. We spend a lot of time there … from story hour to borrowing books, movies, and CDs, it’s a great place for scoring free stuff … seriously.

Well, as long as you don’t forget about a DVD in the back of your car and have it melt. But that’s a different story for another day.

And not only can you borrow all these fabulous items from the library, most public lending institutions now also have a digital catalog that allows you to borrow digital books for your eReader! Fab!

But there are other ways your library card can save you money too!

Internet Access: I know this would be a stretch for most of us … especially those of us that love our technology. But if you have a smartphone that can be a hotspot, and you’re not a heavy Internet user, you could easily use the Internet access at your local library for free. Got a kiddo that’s researching a project? Take them to the library and set them up to search online while you relax with a good book.

Test Prep: Got a kiddo that’s struggling at school? Before you hit up a pricey tutoring service, check in with your library. Many sites now offer free access to subscription-only online tutoring sites. And if you’re looking to learn a new language, check with your local library, too. I know ours offers online courses for 12 different languages, starting with beginner classes and going all the way through advanced! All for free!!

eReaders: So you can borrow eBooks for free, but did you know you can also check out and borrow an eReader? Most library’s now carry an inventory of eReaders that patrons can borrow for a few weeks at a time. Great for a family vacation or even if you just want to test one out before you make a purchase.

Entertainment: You know all about books, movies, and music. But did you also know that local libraries often carry free or low-cost passes to museums and other family-friendly entertainment? This is particularly useful in the summertime when you’re home with the kids.

If you haven’t visited your local library lately, head on over and check it out. You might be surprised!

It can also be a great place to meet other families – esp. during story time.

The library is a great way to get free entertainment for kids over the summer. For instance, my local library offers a summer reading program and many free programs (with entertainers, authors, educations, etc.) that you can register for throughout the summer. Plus, the library has A.C.!

L.O.V.E. the library! :)  My main tip for moms is to request books and they’ll be waiting for you on hold when you get there.  My favorite item is books on CD for kids.  Awesome!
