Etsy Therapy: Oops… I Dyed It Again

You’ve seen it in shirts. You’ve seen it on dresses. You’ve heard it used as a trendy excuse for letting one’s roots grow a little too long and ends get a little too fried.

Ombre is everywhere — although it’s technically a term for the effect resulting from the repeated dipping of an object or material into dye in a manner that gradually goes from dark to light in a progressive fashion, it can basically apply to anything that goes from high saturation to pastel in a rational way.

While the effect is incredibly popular in blues, turquoises and teals given its water-like properties, it’s equally stunning in other colors as well. We took a spin around Etsy today, looking for the best in handmade ombre goods, and turned up a quartet of household goodies that will be fashionable in and of themselves long after the ombre apparel trend is shown the door.

The Etsy shop o ME and o MY introduces a striking set of ombre and gold-tipped serving utensils (above), while Gardenmis applies a chevron pattern to its lavender sachets with a similar color undulation (below).

Ever-so-comfy is the 20″ teal pillow hand-dyed by Dre Gets Crafty, as is the bright orange made-to-order series of ombre rugs — not dissimilar to the sun itself, actually — available at Green at Heart Rugs (both, below).
