Do You Crave Comfy or Couture?

Do You Crave Comfy or Couture?

My shoes are more than something I use to protect my feet when I leave the house. They are an extension of who I am, an important part of my fashion statement.

To say I love shoes would be an understatement akin to saying Donald Trump is good with money. I think I am currently up to about 18 pairs, and of those there are exactly two styles without heels – and not 2 inch heels, either. We’re talking five and six inch heels.

Last night I went shopping with my oldest daughter. Although shoe addiction has been passed down from me to my girls, she happened to be wearing “sensible” shoes. I, on the other hand, was wearing my sparkly, holographic pumps that change color in different lights.

Six hours later I was walking barefoot though the parking lot in 34 degree temperatures and she was laughing at me.

I am not tall. At 5 foot 4 inches I am shorter than everyone in my house except my nine year old, and I think that this is the last year I can boast that. Tall shoes are an important part of me being able to function.

I don’t really care how they feel and usually they are comfortable for the first several hours, especially if I remember those silicone pads. When I was a teenager I worked retail in high heels a full 40 hours a week.

I like how the heels make my legs look, I like how they add a graceful touch to my outfits. I realize that at nearly 53 I am supposed to be dressing for comfort, but I just can’t do it any more than I can give up red fingernail polish.

Do you choose shoes for comfort or for fashion? Let’s do a casual poll. In the comments section post either “comfort” or “fashion” and your age. I’m curious how the numbers stack up.

:) I just love my shoes.

Well I have been 29 and holding for a few years now… I still shop with style in mind and have a lot of too-painful-to-wear-yet-beautiful shoes crammed into my closet, but I seem to usually end up wearing the same couple pairs of my less attractive but very comfy, well-loved flats.
