Ditching the Morning Distractions

Do you have a hard time getting out of the house in the morning? A lot of times, we blame it on the kids … “Oh, Johnny wouldn’t get out of bed this morning!”

When in reality, you were standing in front of the bathroom mirror playing Words with Friends while you brushed your teeth.

Sound familiar?

With all the technology that surrounds us, it’s easy to get distracted! Who doesn’t want to check Facebook over morning coffee?

Here’s three ways to ditch the distractions.

Turn Off the Television: In this case, it might be more about you wanting to avoid a massive morning meltdown if the kids can’t watch their favorite cartoons. And I’m not saying you should avoid the tube altogether. I’m just saying, make sure they’re dressed and ready to go before they ever turn it on. And that goes for you, too!

Turn Off Your Smartphone: Or at the very least, turn off the ringer. If it chimes every time someone makes a status update (or plays a new word in WWF), you’re going to spend (read: waste!) a ton of time looking at your phone. And it’s not just about the social media, it’s also about email! Unless, of course, your self-control is far superior to mine.

Turn Off the Social Media: This is a no-brainer. You can check on Kate’s new baby and Jen’s vacation to Vegas after everyone is ready to head out the door. Based on several studies from the Nielsen corporation and universities around the country, the average adult spends eight and a half hours in front of a screen each day (that includes working on a computer), but much of that is in the social media vortex.
