There are many different ways to plan a child’s birthday party, but your go to party idea might just become the crafty birthday, especially for the eight to twelve year olds.
While a regular birthday party might stagnate after a short time, a party where crafts are involved probably won’t. Giving children something to make will help keep the party interesting, running smoothly, and make fabulous memories. Plus, you should be able to retreat to a quiet corner to twitch in solitude.
Here are some ideas for crafty birthday party themes that anyone can do.
Boho Birthday Party
Bring back the 60’s without being too uncool by creating a party around tie dye.
Make an easy tie dyed birthday cake by making a box of white cake mix batter according to instructions. Separate the batter in three to five equal parts and then color each part with gel food colors.
Add the batter to the pan in spoonfuls putting different colors on top and next to each other without mixing. Run a butter knife through the batter and swirl gently to make waves of color in the cake. Frost with your favorite frosting. For a quick version, you can do the same thing with cupcakes.
Make tie dyed tees. In advance, buy a white tee shirt in each guest’s size, or ask them to bring their own.
Pour dye into plastic squirt bottles, a different color in each bottle. You will want at least three colors.
Have the guests take their tee shirts and wrap rubber bands around it randomly, a couple of inches apart. Use the bottles to squeeze different colored dyes onto different areas of the tee shirts. Let them set for about three hours and rinse, with the rubber bands still in place. Let the shirts dry and they are ready to go.
A great way to keep kids busy and interested in a birthday party is to throw a cupcake party. It is easy, does not require you to buy or decorate a cake, and over all the kids will have a great time. Just bake one cupcake for each guest but don’t frost it.
Make a double batch of buttercream frosting and separate it into bowls. Color each bowl with a different color food gels. It is a good idea to keep at least half of the frosting white, that way you can color it in any color you like.
Put the colored frosting in disposable decorating bags so that the guests can create their own unique cake designs. Sprinkles and colored sugar are optional but great additions to the table.
You can even have a judging and give prizes for the most colorful, the most unique, etc. Just make sure you have a special prize category for each guest. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Craft themed parties are fun for everyone. Keep your camera handy to record the events of the day so that you and your child can enjoy the memories for the rest of your lives.
