I looked at our schedule the other day and I made an executive decision. For now, our family will not be going to Wednesday night services at our church.
It was a tough decision and I do feel a little guilty over it. The problem is that now that the kids are not homeschooled, they get home at about four o clock. Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays they go to karate, Sundays are church, Wednesdays are church – and that leaves Monday and Friday for homework, relaxing, and just being a kid.
I look at my schedule and I don’t want them to end up with the burn out I so often feel simply from having too much to do. Leaving the house before 7:30, getting home at 4:00, and then getting homework done is a schedule that leaves little time for relaxation.
I worry that my kids are now too busy to be kids.
It seems to be a prevailing problem throughout society. We are all working so hard to have better lives that we have no life at all. I know that I work way too much. I tend to be doing something work oriented six or seven days a week. Let’s not discuss how many hours a day I put in.
You have to wonder if our kids are emulating our busyness. And if they are, is it something that we want for them?
What are your thoughts? Do kids get enough free time these days?
